Nordstrom’s First-Ever Instameet Takes Place in Jacksonville

Nordstrom, the long-anticipated addition to the St. Johns Town Center, is finally opening its doors this Friday (10/10 at 10 a.m.), and they’re paving the way with a series of pre-launch events to amp up community excitement and engagement before the big day. Today, members of the Jacksonville Instagram community (specifically participants on the hashtag #IGersJax), were invited for a pre-launch media tour and cocktail hour. My mom-in-law and I have been eagerly awaiting the opening of the new store and were thrilled to be included in today’s event.

Brandy Jefferson, our new Jacksonville store manager, along with social media and public relations team members from Nordstrom corporate, led today’s tour, giving us time to take pictures of each of the new departments, ask questions about what sets our store apart from others they’ve done to date, and to enjoy tasty treats from both their coffee bar (EBar) and Bazille, their tapas and cocktail bar.

Fun Facts I Learned:

  •  Today’s Instameet was the first that Nordstrom has ever held, and was due in large part to the active online community that Jacksonville has been cultivating. It helps that we (the Jacksonville IG/Twitter community) were providing active, organic and ongoing engagement since the announcement of the new store, and I think it’s a great testament to the fact that we do have such a thriving online community in Jacksonville. I love that this is being noticed by big brands like Nordstrom—it’s a huge win for the Jacksonville social media scene.
  • Nordstrom’s corporate social media engagement is handled by a team of twelve full-time (24/7) community managers, but a local employee is empowered to manage the community-specific accounts for the brand to ensure that content and engagement are tailor-made for that community based on what locals want to see.
  • Norstrom’s first foray into social media began in 2008 on Twitter and was driven by customers requesting a way to interact/engage with the brand. The goal of their social media presence from day 1 has been to provide unparalleled customer service and satisfaction.
  • I don’t know about you, but one of the things I love most about Nordstrom is the shoe selection, so it comes as no surprise that that’s actually how Nordstrom got its start back in 1901. They were solely (pun intended) a shoe company. Neat!
